Cost and quotes

How much do quartz countertops cost in San Diego?

A bathroom vanity top typically runs $400-$1,200. A standard kitchen countertop run runs $2,500-$4,500. Larger kitchens with islands and waterfall edges run $6,000-$10,000 or more. The on-site templating visit confirms the written price.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. A countertop fabricator visits your kitchen or bathroom, takes a digital template, reviews slab options and edge profiles, and hands you a written quote with no obligation and no trip fee for your zip.

What drives the price up on a quartz countertop project?

Square footage, slab grade, edge profile complexity, number of cutouts, and seam count are the main cost drivers. Waterfall edges, mitered edges, and premium veined quartz cost more than standard slabs with eased edges. Countertop repair adds prep cost if cabinets need leveling before the new slab is set. Your fabricator confirms all of it at the on-site visit.

Materials and installation

Does quartz need to be sealed?

No. Engineered quartz is non-porous because resin binders fill the gaps between quartz crystals during manufacturing. It does not absorb liquids, stain from wine or oil, or require annual sealing the way granite and marble do. Quartz is lower maintenance than natural stone for most San Diego kitchens.

Can quartz countertops handle hot pots and pans?

Quartz is not fully heat-resistant. Placing pots directly from the stovetop or oven onto quartz can crack the resin binders and cause discoloration or damage. A trivet or hot pad is recommended. Natural stone like granite handles heat better, which is worth discussing if your cooking style involves frequent direct pan contact.

What edge profiles are available for quartz countertops?

Eased, beveled, bullnose, ogee, waterfall, and mitered profiles are all available. Eased is the most common request in San Diego for its clean, modern look. Waterfall edges extend the slab down the vertical face of an island. Your fabricator brings profile samples to the on-site estimate so you can see and feel the options before committing.

Timing and process

How long does quartz countertop installation take in San Diego?

The templating visit takes one to two hours. Fabrication runs three to seven business days after templating. Installation takes one day for most kitchens. Plumbing reconnection is included. Your fabricator sets the full timeline at the initial estimate.

Can I use my kitchen while waiting for the new countertops?

After the old countertops are removed and before the new quartz is installed, you will not have a usable countertop or sink. Most homeowners plan for one to two days without kitchen access during the removal and installation window. Your fabricator schedules the removal and installation on consecutive days when possible.

Do I need a permit for quartz countertop replacement in San Diego?

Countertop replacement is cosmetic work and does not require a permit in most cases. If the project involves moving the sink drain or adding a new water line, those plumbing elements may need a permit. Your fabricator confirms what is and is not in the permit scope.

About the service

Are you the company doing the countertop work?

Are the countertop fabricators insured?

The fabricators we match carry general liability and workers comp, and we confirm coverage before work starts. You can verify any California contractor license at cslb.ca.gov before you sign.

What does the service cost me?

Getting matched and getting the on-site templating visit and written quote costs you nothing. You only pay the countertop fabricator you choose for the actual work.
